Webinar Overview

Art and creativity are essential components to enriching lives at any age. Art in its many forms even has the power to change minds. This webinar will examine how art, when combined with the strategy of activism, can tackle ageism in beautiful and powerful ways. This session explores how professionals in our field can raise awareness of, and address, ageism using a centuries-old practice of "artistic activism."

Artistic activism has had significant historical impact on social change, particularly with regard to many well-known movements, such as civil rights, women’s rights, and workers’ rights. Presenters will discuss creative and artistic projects that senior living communities (and others) have implemented in an effort to change minds, bridge divides, and bring people together to eradicate prejudices around age. In addition, participants will walk away with concrete ideas for how they can address ageism through artistic activism in their own communities.

What you will take away from this webinar:

  • Learn about the latest research on ageism and how it affects healthcare and the economy
  • Outline historic and contemporary examples of artistic activism and the evidence behind its effectiveness in creating social change and how social media and other digital marketing and communications strategies and techniques work to bolster awareness of issues and reframe narratives
  • Identify ideas that senior living professionals can draw from to create their own "actions" to combat ageism via the power of artistic activism in their own communities and beyond
