Webinar Overview

Over 75% of people living with dementia (PLWD) experience behavioral and psychological symptoms of distress (BPSD). Expressions of distress (e.g., wandering, persistent vocalizations, and refusal of care) can be upsetting to the individual and care providers. Evidence-based interventions that take a person-centered approach to addressing these concerns are limited.

This presentation will describe the results of a quality improvement project approved through the Ohio Department of Aging to implement the Individualized Positive Psychosocial Intervention (IPPI). The IPPI is an evidence-based program that includes an educational component on emotional intelligence within the context of care for PLWD.

Objectives:
• Participants will be able to describe the elements of the Individualized Positive Psychosocial Intervention program
• Participants will be able to explain the concept of emotional intelligence and know how to access the emotion-focused communication training on-line
• Participants will be able to explain the results of the IPPI QIP conducted from July 1, 2021-September 30, 2022.
